When paving across large widths, absolute accuracy of line and levels is a crucial criterion for prime quality results. The new VÖGELE VR 600-2 rear-mounted extending screed stands out through highest stability, a feature making sure that the specified parameters for pave width, layer thickness, crown and transverse profile are always maintained while paving. Furthermore, the screed is equipped with vibrators across the full pave width. The VÖGELE VR 600-2 Extending Screed has been designed specifically for the range of VISION pavers and the requirements of road construction in the USA, Australia and New Zealand.

Impressive width

A decisive factor for paving true to line and level is the structural stability of the screed, regardless of the pave width and layer thickness involved. The VR 600-2 Extending Screed boasts impressive abilities in this respect: its basic width is 10 ft. and it can be extended hydraulically up to 19 ft. 8 in. – to nearly twice the basic width. With bolt-on extensions fitted, the screed builds up to a maximum width of 28 ft. The quick-fitting system allows the 26-in. wide bolt-on extensions to be mounted very easily and quickly.

 

The new rear-mounted VR 600-2 Extending Screed has been specially developed for VÖGELE pavers of the VISION Series. It is the ideal tool for paving in widths between 10 and 19 ft. 8 in.

Stable telescoping system

In terms of large pave widths, the utmost stability of the screed is crucial. The VR 600-2 comes with the well proven single-tube telescoping system for infinitely variable screed width control, used in all VÖGELE Extending Screeds the world over. This telescoping system is operated by two hydraulic rams and holds the screed extensions securely in position. An additional guide tube ensures that the basic screed and the extensions have sufficient overlap and no material is left uncompacted behind the screed. Furthermore, an additional torque restraint system counteracts the high pressure of the mix and prevents the screed extensions from twisting around the telescoping tubes.

Screed control made easy

The screed is controlled easily and intuitively through the proven ErgoPlus® operating system via two fixed consoles on the basic screed and two remote controls. The push-buttons on the screed consoles are enclosed in raised rings, so that they can easily be operated by touch even when wearing work gloves. The self-explanatory symbols on the consoles are clear and easy to understand. Adjustments of vibrator speed and conveyor speed, for instance, can easily be made. NIVELTRONIC Plus® for automatic grade and slope control is likewise easy to operate and is available as an option for integration into the ErgoPlus® operating system. And of course, all relevant pavement profiles are hydraulically adjustable at the press of a button from the screed consoles.

When sloping the extensions of the VR 600-2 Extending Screed, only the frame of the screed extension is sloped leaving the guide system horizontal at all times. This provides maximum rigidity from the screed.

Unique “intelligent” extension design reduces the need for vertical height adjustment while paving.

Automatic slope control

Paving sloped pavement profiles is easy with the VR 600-2 Extending Screed. When sloping the extensions, only the frame of the screed extension is sloped, leaving the guide system horizontal at all times. This contributes significantly to the high rigidity of the screed. An automatic slope function ensures that a constant angle and break point is always maintained when carrying out on-the-fly pave width adjustments for the road or shoulder. Crown and extension height adjustment are independently set – also fully hydraulically.

The new VÖGELE VR 600-2 Extending Screed is ideally suited to building pavements of the highest profile accuracy and evenness in widths up to 28 ft. It is equipped with vibrators across the full pave width. Based on its outstanding overall technical concept, the VR 600-2 is the perfect choice for medium and large-scale road construction projects. When it comes to paving asphalt layers across multiple lanes, the new screed also yields substantial advantages over single-lane paving as it avoids joints, the weak points in every asphalt pavement.
